Malkerson Gallery 408 WORLD ART DAY Sculpture Project

Call to Artists:  You are invited to participate in the creation of a collaborative sculpture installation in celebration of WORLD ART DAY 2018*.  The project will consist of multiple individual art works created by local artists on poles (provided**) and installed in the sculpture garden on 12th Street.  Each pole will represent a different county and should utilize the colors of that country’s flag as a primary part of the work.  (For example: The colors of the flag of Mexico are Red, White and Green; USA are Red, White and Blue; Germany are Black, Red and Yellow).  Each artist can identify the country of their choice, provided it has not already been chosen by another artist.

There will be a procession of artists with their poles (transformed into “talking sticks”) walking together to deliver them to the installation spot on Friday, April 13th.  The procession and the installation will be a great photo opportunity and will be included in the World Art Day CARRIZOZO video.

Please take photos of your work in progress so they may be included in social media posts to promote CARRIZOZO and World Art Day.  The collection of poles in grouping(s) will become a lasting part of the community and is intended to remain in the sculpture garden as a long-term installation.

TO PARTICIPATE:
1.   Get your Pole from Malkerson Gallery 408 on or after Friday, March 2nd.
2.   Identify which country will serve as your inspiration.
3.   Make your artwork with the pole and have it completed in time for the planned installation. (INSTALLATION DETAILS TO COME).
4.   Provide a narrative of your inspiration for inclusion in the documentation of the work (LIMIT OF 1000 characters/spaces), a photo of YOU, and photos of your work in progress.  Email to: cindy@cynthiajohnsonart.com
5.   Celebrate World Art Day at the INSTALL on Friday, April 13th and at the official UNVEILING on Sunday, April 15th.

ARTWORK REQUIREMENTS:
1.   Please leave the bottom 2 feet (minimally) of your pole unworked so that it can be properly set into the ground.
2.   Please use HIGH GLOSS EXTERIOR PAINT for any painted portion of your pole as it will be installed outside and needs to survive the weather conditions.
3.   IF you attach anything to the pole, be sure that it does not extend more than 12 inches out from any side of the pole.
